Ask an Edenton local where you should get lunch, and among their list of recommendations, they’ll lean a little closer and mention it in hushed, reverent tones: Westover General Store. It’s like they’re trying to keep this esoteric eatery the town’s best kept secret. At a glance Westover looks like a run-of-the-mill old gas station. It’s what’s inside, however, that has attracted regulars for breakfast, lunch, dinner and anything in between for almost 30 years. Westover offers a large variety of deli sandwiches made with Boars Head and Block and Barrel meats piled high on garlic-buttery rolls. All sandwiches are made to order, and the chicken and tuna salads are made fresh every day. They also have breakfast items including biscuit sandwiches. Everything on their menu is available from open until close, so that means you could have a meatball sub for breakfast and egg and cheese biscuit for dinner if you wanted. The inside has convenience store items, so don’t forget to grab a soft drink, bag of chips or cookie to top off your sandwich. Enjoy your meal in the seating area in the back of the store or take it to go.
